Instead of espousing the virtues of freelance, I thought I’d do a tilt job and talk about 10 things I actually miss:
- Colleagues
- Regular pay
- Weekends
- Holidays
- The Friday feeling
- Working with young people (I was a teacher if you’ve not sussed it)
- The commute – only if under 30 minutes mind
- Workplace banter
- Paying into a pension
- The routine of it all
I’m in my fifth year now of self-employment, on the cusp of “retirement” as a teacher and there’s only one thing I’d miss if I went back into paid employment:
FREEDOM
The 10 points above are shit compared with that 7 letter word.
If you’re weighing up setting up your business, do it.
I have only regret – that I didn’t do it 20 years ago.
